"A giant of history" - President Obama's rousing tribute to Nelson Mandela. (Read full speech)

Barack Obama today paid an emotional tribute to Nelson Mandela, calling the late South African leader a 'giant of history'. Mr Obama opened his speech by thanking Mandela's family, then continued: 'To the people of South Africa - people of every race and walk of life - the world thanks you for sharing Nelson Mandela with us. 'His struggle was your struggle. His triumph was your triumph. Your dignity and hope found expression in his life, and your freedom, your democracy is his cherished legacy.'

He continued: 'Mandela taught us the power of action, but also ideas; the importance of reason and arguments; the need to study not only those you agree with, but those who you don't.' Referring to the anti-apartheid icon's friendship with his own prison warders, the President said: 'It took a man like Madiba to free not just the prisoner, but the gaoler as well.'

He also spoke out against the dictators from countries such as Zimbabwe and China who pay lip service to Mandela's legacy while repressing their own people, saying: 'There are too many of us who happily embrace Madiba's legacy of racial reconciliation, but passionately resist even modest reforms that would challenge chronic poverty and growing inequality.

'There are too many leaders who claim solidarity with Madiba's struggle for freedom, but do not tolerate dissent from their own people. And there are too many of us who stand on the sidelines, comfortable in complacency or cynicism when our voices must be heard.'

Mr Obama concluded: 'We will never see the likes of Nelson Mandela again. But let me say to the young people of Africa, and young people around the world - you can make his life's work your own.'

After 5 months of fighting lung infection in South Africa, the world legend finally said goodbye. Nelson Mandela, the South Africa's first black president, died in his Johannesburg home in South Africa at the ripe age of 95.
South Africa's president Jacob Zuma announced the long expected death in a special television broadcast last night. He said "Our nation has lost its greatest son."

My fellow South Africans, our beloved Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the founding president of our democratic nation has departed. He passed on peacefully in the company of his family around 20.50 on December 5 2013.

He is now resting. He is now at peace. Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father. Although we knew that this day would come, nothing can diminish our sense of a profound and enduring loss. His tireless struggle for freedom earned him the respect of the world. His humility, his compassion, and his humanity earned him their love. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mandela family. To them we owe a debt of gratitude. They have sacrificed much and endured much so that our people could be free.

Fast & Furious team release touching YouTube tribute video to Paul Walker (Video)

Since the tragic and heartbreaking death of actor Paul Walker, i have been trying hard not to read or write about it because each time i see headlines with his name written on it, i choke and tears filled up my eyes. And to think he survived the accident but was burnt to death is even worse to swallow.

If you are an american film addict like me, you would understand what it means to put yourself in an actor's character. In Fast and Furious, he was my favorite character and i so love putting myself in his shoes in all of his scenes. His smile was always contagious and even though i never met him in real life, i loved his person. In some of his random/caught off guard interviews, one would understand he is a real and down to earth person who never failed to smile with his eyes. I never met him and i'm so heartbroken over his death, i just can't imagine what his friends, family, girlfriend and daughter must have been going through. I so wish he cheated death in real life just like he did in his movies. May the soul of this wonderful angel who unknowingly touched so many lives rest in peace!

Meanwhile, i almost died yesterday but thanks to the giver of life, i'm still here and by his grace, i'm gonna be here for a very long time.

UPDATES ON TYPHOON : 10,000 people has died in one city alone in Philippines tsunami-like disaster (Graphic images)

A woman mourns in front of her husband's dead body which lies on the street under tarpaulin alongside other dead bodies
Officials in the devastated Philippines say the super typhoon that happened yesterday has caused a 'tsunami-like disaster' and it is feared 10,000 people have been killed in one city alone. There are reports of major looting in Tacloban, Leyte - which has been most badly damaged by the typhoon - and the government is considering introducing martial law to ensure security. Efforts by aid agencies to deliver food and water to the worst affected areas have been hampered by severed roads and communications and witnesses say people are taking whatever they can from shops and garages. A TV station said ATM machines have been broken open in tacloban.

President Benigno Aquino said the government had deployed 300 soldiers and police to restore order and that he was considering introducing martial law or a state of emergency in Tacloban to ensure security. 'Tonight, a column of armoured vehicles will be arriving in Tacloban to show the government's resolve and to stop this looting,' he said. As Vietnam braced itself for the onslaught of Typhoon Haiyan last night, in the Philippines, bodies have been seen floating down the streets and hanging from trees, cars lying upside down and houses reduced to a pile of soggy mud and brick. Eastern islands and the centre of the country were battered by winds in excess of 200mph. Super typhoon Haiyan is believed to be the strongest storm to ever hit land.
Please don't forget to remember them in your prayers.
