Human Rights Group demands better poverty alleviation method for Edo widows.

Spaces for Change, a human rights group, has called on state governors to redesign their approaches to poverty alleviation to effectively empower the poor. In a statement reacting to the video, which showed the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, telling a widow, Mrs. Joy Ifijeh, who was trading on the street to 'go and die', the group said the incident showed a huge disconnect between the ruling class and the governed.

The Executive Director of Spaces for Change, Mrs. Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, said though commendable, Oshiomhole's gesture of offering the widow, employment and N2m after the incident was "clearly an afterthought, mainly designed to contain the mounting public censure."
"This Greek gift does not in any way address the bigger issues of widespread poverty and street trading in Benin City nor does it serve as an effective deterrent to future offenders. He should instead, seize the opportunity to rethink and redesign the state's poverty alleviation approaches, ensuring that programmes and services that directly benefit poor citizens are put in place. The state should build on the momentum to develop social security and support-based programmes for enhancing access of low-income groups or individuals to credit or other economic opportunities," she stated.

This is crazy! Watch how traffic law enforcement agents exploit drivers in Edo State (Video)

This video was captured at the Traffic Enforcement Agency along Sapele Road in Benin City.
According to the cameraman who happened to be one of the victims, "On this day, while driving around Sapele Road, a female traffic officer jumped out of an obscure location, raised her hand on a 45 miles/hour traffic. Immediately, every driver came to a screeching halt. Some other traffic officers (mostly males) rushed out of their cars and started arresting all the drivers for "made up" offenses. It was later learned that it is their strategy to arrest and exploit the driving masses. On the way to their office, they requested for bribes. If you bargained too low, they took you to the office and their supervisor will then set the non-negotiable bribe amount. 5,000 Naira bribes were paid by most drivers on this day."

APC politicians plan how to cover up after RIGGING Esan North East LG Election in Edo State. (Video)

Nigerian politicians hoodlums are so dubious that they can go extra length to win rig their elections. The video you are about to watch will shock some people while others who are used to the ways of Nigerian political hoodlums will say 'na their way'.

Right before the LG election of last month, a chieftain of the PDP in Edo State, Chief Clifford Eineh, raised an alarm over the alleged plans by the APC to rig the council election in Esan North East LGA of Edo State.
In a statement, Eineh said,
"We are using this opportunity to call on all security agencies to beef up their strategies to avert rigging and manipulations during the council election as scores of strange faces have invaded our communities ahead of the polls. We are more particularly concerned about the security of lives and property across Esan North East Local Government Area, especially the hinterlands like Uzea and several other villages in Uromi. We particularly call on the Inspector General of Police, IGP, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies to rise to the challenge of defending our nascent democracy as we have reliably gathered that there are plans by the APC - led government in Edo State to announce a concocted result on the council election in their favour from Government House, Benin City. Our people shall definitely resist any result that does not emanate from the election."

Why is Governor Adams Oshiomole's billboard on a private project? Is he a shareholder in Shoprite Edo?

On Wednesday 13th November 2013, Governor Adams Oshiomhole laid the foundation stone of $45 million shoprite shopping mall in Edo State. Just few days after the event, there are billboards all over the state thanking the governor for bringing Shoprite to Edo State. It's really funny to have the governor's billboard on a private project. Shoprite has already been existing in Nigeria for long and no one put up a billboard to thank Fashola for bringing it to Lagos State, nobody did the same for Enugu, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Ibadan etc but it's only in Edo state you have government officials brainwash Edolites, making them think that a shopping mall being built by a foreign company is a state government project and that he should be thanked for it.

The latest findings and investigations revealed that the Police bosses in Benin City held several meetings with Edo State governor last week, where they threatened the governor that they would not help the governor enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) if the governor does not retreat from his earlier promise to set up an inquiry to investigate the wrongful and extrajudicial killing of Ibrahim Momodu.

Edo State Government Halts Judicial Panel On Slain 400L Uniben Student, Ibrahim Momodu.

Edo State government has halt the action on the setting up of a panel of inquiry into the killing of Ibrahim Momodu who was murdered by Police DPO of Ogiba Police station, Carol Afegbai.

In a statement by the chief press secretary to the government said the government made the decision because a case file on the late Momodu's murder has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions by the police for advice and further action.

It said it will therefore amount to a duplication of efforts by the government to set up another panel of inquiry since the Director of Public Prosecutions is a government functionary in the state ministry of justice.

Protest In Benin City Over Okada Ban By Edo State Governor. (Photos)

The Edo State bike ridders are on rampage after gov. Adams Oshiomhole banned the use of commercial motocycle citing that it's the major means kidnappers use for kidnapping in Edo state.

What i was expecting the comrade governor to do was to ban Okada in some major streets in Benin City to reduce traffic and accident not the total ban of Okada. I say corruption & alcohol has killed more Edo people than Okada. Ban corruption not okada.

Meanwhile, gov. Oshiomhole's ban on okada has nothing to do with the reasons he gave, it has more to do with the billions of naira ha and his agents will make from a deal with the chinese to replace okada with keke Napep in urban areas of Edo State.

Keke Napep cannot employ 5% of okada riders that will be affected by this fraud. Or where the Okada men the people that committed the electoral genocide in April 2013? Below is a list of people that were kidnapped in Edo State and none of them were kidnapped by okada riders.

Governor Oshiomhole Bans Commercial Motocycle In Three LGA In Benin City.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has banned the use of commercial motocycle popularly known as Okada in Benin City with effect from next Monday.

The governor announced the ban to newsmen this morning after this week's security meeting, stating that the ban is limited to three local government areas which are Ikpoba Okha, Oredo and Egor Local Government Area. He added that it is now increasingly evident that many of the kidnappers in the state are Okada riders and that the state has become a haven for criminals and other okada riders who migrated to Edo State following similar bans in other states.

He appealed to the Okada riders to bear with the government as they were compelled to make this decision.

He also said that the security agencies have resolved to commerce random checks of the private security personnel employed by residents in the state to determine if they are Nigerians and have valid papers to reside in the country as it has been discovered that they have largely been the informants in cases of kidnapping.
He advised residents of the state to properly scrutinize those they employ as helps and security personnel.

#Na wa oh! Okada ban when there is no single industry or establishment in the state to employ  the unemployed. My heart bleeds for the thousands of bread winners and their families whose livelihood has just ended. I think this is a way of turning the state into a haven of criminal activities.
Is this a way of reducing crime or increasing it?
